Card Patterns Sketch #55 and Paper Sundaes 9th Challenge.

The card base and folio closure is from a card kit I got from Joann's.  I can't remember the name of the brand and couldn't find it on their website - it's not that great anyway.  A lot of supplies - but I was hoping for some instructions on how to make the cards too rather than just a loot of supplies.  I love to get card kits like this because it's usually easy to follow the directions and make some really cute cards - but with this kit I have to be all creative and stuff....blah! ;D

The papers are from Fancy Pants and DCWV paper packs.

The ducky image and Happy Spring are from Polly Craft's Friday Freebies (Thanks to the commenter who reminded me!)

365 Cards Day 7! Pooh!

For day 7 365 did a sketch challenge.  I haven't done faux stitching on cards yet - and didn't dare touch my mom's expensive sewing machine - so this is what I eventually came up with!
This one completes the first week of challenges - so far I have completed all but 2 of the first 18 challenges - GO ME!
So here's Pooh! Enjoy!

*Recipe: Pooh images and saying is from Sandy Lion Brand paper - the paper itself is titled Pooh Phrase - it has multiple Pooh images, sayings and little additions (like the bee).  Super cute and only $.29 for the sheet on clearance at Michael's Crafts!

365 Day 17

365 Challenged us to make a card with "twinchies" today, meaning 2 in. by 2 in. pieces or sentiment. So this is my creation.  The card is 5x5.  Each square is 2x2.  I love this set of paper and accessories.  The star is from My Mind's Eye Star Bright Accessories and all of the paper is from My Mind's Eye Brilliant set.  I got all of them from a wonderful store I've talked about before - The Scrapbook Outlet.
Enjoy!

Another double Dipper! :D

When I saw the Ad Inspired challenge by 365 for Day 15 - I immediately saw the beautiful colors - the blues and greens - and knew I had to do something with those colors.  It's hard to see in the pictures but this has similar beautiful colors.

The layout I used is from Sweet Sunday Sketch #60, just turned on it's side.

I tried to get a picture of the embellishment...but my camera wasn't complying.

*Recipe: Paper and embellishment are both from Modern Basics: Perfect Pages.  I'm not finding any info on this brand online any where - but wish I had gotten more than one package when I did buy it as the whole pack/set was only $1.97!!! I a deal! Plus, it was super easy to match everything, since it's already matched!

Polly Craft 36 challenge & 365 Cards Day 12

This card works for 2 challenges.
First is for Pollycraft Challenge #36.  It was a challenge to use sparkly things - I LOVE sparkly things! But I must add - if you're doing sparkly on a card for OWH make sure it's not lose glitter.  This glitter was IN the paper, so it won't cause a big mess for the shippers or the soldiers.

The 2nd challenge was Day 12 for 365 Cards.  This challenges was to include 20 circles from 2 sources.  As soon as I saw this paper from DCWV's All Dressed Up pack I knew I wanted to use it for this challenge - but had a tough time deciding what to do with it til this afternoon.

*Recipe: Paper is from DCWV's all Dressed Up paper pack. "Just Because" sentiment does not have a label on it - something I've had for a while...got it for $.99! I LOVE me a deal!

365 Cards Challenge Day 16 & OWH S&S Sketch

365's Day 16 challenged us to do opposites.  And I thought this idea was perfect with OWH Stars & Stamps sketch challenge:
I don't particularly like the sentiment I used....mainly because I'm not liking the way my handwriting turned out - but eh...can't change it now!

365 Cards Challenge Day 11

Been a busy day - so I only got one card made... I am SO far behind on my challenges!

This one qualifies for 365 Card's Day 11; which was to create a lovely landscape with patterned papers - no solid papers.  I paper pieced part of this and popped some of the stuff up as well.  Here's what I came up with:

*Recipe: Blue paper background is CTMH, Green grass is from a paper pack I've had for years (can't remember the brand), the stamp set is Laughter from American Crafts (I really loved this set when I found it, but am not at all impressed with the quality - the page that was included in the packaging to show what the images were for the clear stamps came off onto the stamps when they touched, kind of like how a rub off comes off..made a big mess of the set - definitely don't recommend this brand), and the ink is from CTMH.

365 Cards Challenge Day 10

The challenge for Day 10 was to use the following colors: Orange, Purple and Blue.

The image in this card I got through the OWH Image Swap - thanks Andrea!!!

A multi-challenge qualifing card!

I paper pieced this card - and love how the gum ball machine turned out, but don't think I'll be paper piecing this one again - pieces are a bit too small!

This qualifies for the following challenges:
*OWH S&S Midweek Challenge to try out Paper Piecing
*CardPattern's 55th Sketch
*365 Day 13's challenge to paper piece and raise it.

It's hard to tell in the photos, but some of the gumballs are higher than others, just slightly though.

*It's late here right now, so I'll be linking sites and doing more details tomorrow!

365 Card Challenges and more! - Gotta get caught up!

So I need to get caught up with these card posts.  And just a note - I am really LOVING 365 Cards! It's so great to find so many new ideas and challenges to keep my creative juices flowing and pushing me beyond my comfort zone. Thank you!

Day 1: The challenge was to use the following colors in the card: Blue, Brown, White, Red and Kraft.  I had a tough time with this - for whatever reason I couldn't think of anything...then while working on a different card I found these papers and came up with the card below.

This is a triple! dipper as this weeks Critter Sketch Challenge #4 states to use the following: blue, yellow, green and a flower. Enjoy!

And it matched the sketch for Unscripted Sketches #45.   I love how it turned out.

*Recipe: patterned paper is from DCWV Green Stack, the kraft paper is from a Scrap Pack from Walmart, and the white card base is from the Super Value Pack.

Day 9 challenged us to make a card based on the song: Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong.  Again, I really wasn't sure what to do until I found the paper I used. The paper said "Wonderful World."

*Recipe: All of the strips of paper are from the DCWV Green Stack paper pack.  The white card base is from the Super Value Pack.

This card was for the Sweet Sunday Sketch #59 challenge.  I didn't post this soon enough to put it on their blog - but oh well - I still really love it!!

OWH did an image swap and the Owl was one of those images that I got.  As soon as I saw it I knew what paper I wanted to use with it - just wasn't sure how to put it together.  But really really love how this turned out:
(The inside says "Thanks for OWLways being there." Sorry that it's so blurry.)

*Recipe: Image is from Sandy at OWH..can't remember the company - Sorry!  The patterned paper is from ...?)

And just for the fun of it:

365 Card Challenge Day 2

365's Challenge on Day 2 was to include on your card the following: a circle, silver and a pearl.  I didn't have any pearl embellishments so it's taken me a while to complete this one.  While in the process of remodeling my parents basement I found 2 tins full of old buttons.  Yesterday it occurred to me that maybe there's a pearl looking button in there - and there was!  Nothing was working for me though in making a card!

So I finally decided on the card below.  The glittery paper is from DCVW's All Dressed Up pack, the flower is from a paper pack by Me & My Big Ideas.

365 Card Challenge Day 8

365 Card's challenge for day 8 is to make a card based on the idea of the phrase "Outer Space."

I really didn't know what to do, but knew I wanted to use the star print paper from the DCVW Stack 6 Paper pack.  Then I was organizing some of my embellishments I came upon the button with the rockets on it from a Rough & Tough button pack by Fancy Pants and knew it'd be perfect.  To top it off I used glittery* letters from Making Memories mini shimmer alpha.

*Just a quick interjection - for OWH cards do NOT use glitter.  It can make the soldiers visible to night vision goggles if it becomes loose and gets on them.  I need to check with the OWH ladies to see if these letters will be okay since they have a coating over them preventing the glitter from coming off... I'll let you know what they say!

On to the card:

A fun card!

So my mom came home from work with a saying she'd seen on a card at work, and I knew I'd have to find a way to use it. And while searching for fancy fold templates for a different challenge I found the perfect card template for the saying!

If you can't see - the card says: I love you with all my butt... (inside) Because my butt is bigger than my heart!

I must say - I LOVE how this turned out and will definitely be making more for OWH!

*Printed paper is from Fancy Pants; solid paper is from a scrap pack I got at Walmart; text was typed up in Word.

365 Card Challenge Day 5

So the challenge for day 5 is a Fancy Fold card.  A link they gave to help find templates is here.  I have seen other vest cards and think they're so cute, and so perfect for Father's Day - so I decided on that one.

Once I printed it out and cut it, I really wasn't feeling it very much - so I looked at more stuff online, and decided to play more with the one I had cut out.  I use a paper puncher that is oval shaped for the neck and arm holes.  And then once I got the embellishments on and finalized I really fell in love with it.

Sometimes starting over from scratch is just what you need to do . . . this was not one of those times!

So here it is..the interior of the card has been left blank.  I haven't decided if I'm going to put a Father's Day sentiment inside or just leave it as is...we'll see.

*Paper is from Fancy Pants, white gel pen used for detailing

OWH Stars and Stamps Sketch #7

brought to you by.... ME!

That's right! This is the first sketch that I've created and shared and OWH Stars & Stamps is using it! Yay!

If you're coming from there, thanks for checking out my blog.

They didn't put it in their post, but of this week's participants I will be picking someone randomly for some blog candy!

So here's my card:

My intention of this card was to have the sentiment be vertical in the middle stripe. I love the colors on this card, but am not happy with the sentiment, so don't be surprised if I participate in this sketch again.  I also put some squared scraps of the pattern inside as you can see in the 2nd picture.

CardPatterns Sketch 54

So excited to announce that I was a winner of one of Card Patterns blog candy prizes this past week! They celebrated 1 year as a blog and had a blog-hop to celebrate.  What can I say... I'm a sucker for blog hopping and checking out other people's creativity.  Thanks Card Patterns!

Their new sketch is so cute and was perfect for a recent digital image donated to Operation Write Home's mid-week challenge on Feb 24th.  The image is from Hambo Stamps - Wee Henry.  I used my Le Plume markers to color him in and a paint brush - I'm really glad I've figured out how to use those! Thanks to YouTube for the tutorial videos!!

365 Card Challenge Day 4

Another Challenge by 365 Cards. The challenge was to create a card following their pattern of only having decorations in the top left corner and along the bottom - thus creating a lot of white space.

AND it's another double-dippin' card! It's perfect for Simon Says Challenge this week - create a Mother's day card.

My interpretation:

365 Card Challenge Day 6

Another fun challenge.

This challenge from 365 Cards was to create a stamped image using more than one color of ink.

For this card I decided to use the Medallion stamp from Stampin' Up that I had recently practiced a positive/negative stamping technique.  I used a cranberry shade and an olive ton for it (although you can't see that very well in the pictures... sorry.  It was late when I took them, so no natural light was available.).  The part of the Medallion stamp that was cut off to fit the card has been attached to the inside of the card.

I really love how this one turned out.  I stamped the card base with the stamp with cranberry to give it some depth, and used a lacing brad for the center of the image. Enjoy!

365 Card Challenge Day 3

Lots of crafting went on today!
For Day 3 365 Cards challenged us to use string art to make a card. I must say - this one was daunting but SO exciting! I've always enjoyed cross stitching, but don't do it often (don't want my cat or daughter getting a hold of the needles!).  So I explored the web a bit and found some cute patterns; this is what I came up with:

The first was originally a pattern for a breast cancer ribbon. But to me it looked perfect for an Any Hero card for Operation Write Home.  The stamped image is from Stampin' Up - their jumbo wheel stamp titled Hero.  It was embossed using buttercup (Thanks to my sister-in-law Amanda!).

The 2nd card I used string art for the flower and the leaf.  Originally it was a bouquet style pattern with 4 flowers and 2 leaves, but I was running low on the beads I wanted to use so I cut it down some.  The stamps used are both from Stampin' Up.  I used the Medallion stamp.  I simply embossed it using clear powder to give the purple paper some pop.  The sentiment is from Stampin' Up's curvy verses set.  It says: Two Simple words that come with so much gratitude...thank you.  When I colored it with the pink I really wasn't sure about how it was going to turn out - but love how it all came together in the end.

I will definitely be using this technique more.  Thanks for challenging me 365!

Another card to meet some challenges. :)

I saw this Robot chip board from My Mind's Eye at Scrapbooking Outlet in Woods Cross.  I found out about the outlet at Pinching Your Pennies. They have some really amazing deals - the majority of the store is 40% off of the marked prices and are insanely below retail.  If you're anywhere near Woods Cross, Utah - check it out!

The following card I was able to double up my challenges - one for Polly Craft Monday Challenge this week was to add distressing to a card - which I think was the perfect for this card.

The sketch I used is for the Card Patterns Sketch 53.  They have a blog hop going on this week to celebrate their 1 year doing sketches - with some really amazing prizes - but hurry! It ends tomorrow! (Thursday March 4th).  I did vary their sketch slightly, by turning it on it's side, and no putting the extra embellishments on the front page, but putting it inside the card instead.

Enjoy!

Critter Sketch Challenge Blog #3! AND OWH Stars & Stamps sketch #6!

Critter Sketch Challenge Blog has inspired another card for Operation Write Home...and yes it's still in that animal theme with the same stamp set and paper! Sorry! Just can't help myself! (I really, can do other stuff... I promise!)

In addition to the Critter Sketch - this works for OWH Stars and Stamps ! It strays a little from their sketch, but I think the 2 are similar enough to count...don't you?

Paper Sundaes 7th Challenge

Great sketch from Paper Sundaes blog this week.  Can you tell I'm really liking this stamp set from Close to My Heart - I'm borrowing it from my sister in law (Thanks Amanda!).  And when I saw that animal print paper I just knew it'd be perfect to match up with this stamp set.

I wasn't sure what to put in the upper right corner so I left it (and because the sketch leaves it blank)...but I'm still feeling it needs something... If you have any suggestions, let me know! It's late and my mind has stopped being creative for the day!

Critter Sketch 1st Challenge

A new Challenge blog - how exciting - Critter Challenge Blog! I love challenge's and sketches to help expand my creativity and give me ideas for the cards I make.

This is what I was able to do with Critter Challenges 1st Challenge:

The lion is from the Close To My Heart's Life's a Jungle, as is the sentiment; colored with Le Plume markers. The animal print background paper is Doddlebug Design's Zoofari paper.

This, as with the majority of my cards, will be going to Operation Write Home.  If you don't know about their wonderful program, please be sure to stop by there and check out it out!
